2017 Spelling Bee & Geographic Bee

FOR THE SPELLING BEE:

Friday November 10th, 2017 1:00-3:00pm, Fair Oaks Library, Fair Oaks, CA

The winner has an opportunity to fly to Washington D.C. and compete in the nationals hosted by Alex Trebek!

Students study on their own and in the second week in January they all compete for a chance to win. For the SPELLING BEE a list with words will be provided to study once the student has registered.

 

To Register (registration opening August 1st):

1.  Make sure SCOPE subscription is current – – open to Scope Members Only
2.  Indicate the name and grade of your child participating.  Participants must be 3 -8 grade during the 2017 – 2018 school year.  Must be younger than 15 on September 1, 2017
3.  Submit $15 per participant by October 9th, 2017.   This fee covers our registration with the Scripps National Spelling Bee ($115) & National Geographic Bee ( $120).

Format:

  • Students will have 15 seconds to answer a question.
  • There is a choice of 2 answers to choose from in the first 3 rounds.
  • The Geography Bee covers the following material:
    • U.S.  Geography: States, rivers, borders, mountains
    • U.S Geographic Comparisons: Comparing States
    • U.S Physical Geography: Physical features of States
    • Continents: People groups, Seas, location
    • World Geography: Rivers, mountains, lakes, cities, borders
    • Cultural Geography: People groups & their cultures
